Course Info

Also known as the Competent Person in the Workplace, (CPIW) the highly anticipated Counter
Terrorism Protective Security and Preparedness Qualification is launching in March 2026. It is the
only qualification endorsed by Counter-Terrorism Policing (CTP) and the National Counter-Terrorism
Security Office (NaCTSO) and the content aligns with the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act
2025. (Also known as Martyn’s Law) The course is delivered over 5 days and is followed by guided
study and professional discussions to pull together a Counter-Terrorism Risk Assessment and
Preparedness Plan.

Target audience

Those with responsibility for venues, sites, organisations and public spaces who want a better
understanding of counter-terrorism in preparation for the implementation of the Terrorism
(Protection of Premises) Act 2025 (Martyn’s Law). If it is reasonable to expect that at least 200
individuals may be present at a public location, the venue needs to prepare.

How is the course assessed?

Through three formal assessments, learners will demonstrate competence in counter-terrorism
protective security principles through Multiple-Choice Examination, a Written Assignment and a
Professional discussion.

Eligibility

This qualification is suitable for learners aged 18 and over. There are no formal entry requirements.
However, this qualification is intended for individuals with responsibility for safety, security, or
operational planning within their organisation.
